Summer time is almost here!

Is the rain outside getting a bit old?? I know it is to me!! But do not worry, the month of April is officially over and now it is time for May flowers! I only have one more week of school (which is exciting but also stressful!) and I could not be more ready for summer!

Summer should be a time to relax...

It can be at the lake:

Or the beach:

Or in your most comfortable chair!:

I just love summer, it has to be one of my favorite seasons!! Summer can also be an inspiration for interiors and clothing! Here are some photos I found (and LOVE) that show off some summertime inspiration!!

This living space looks like it belongs on the beach somewhere! It embraces the idea of summer!

This above photo screams SUMMER! With its pastel color chairs and artwork, the space is lovely for summertime!

Here is an example where an outfit inspired a space. I think they go hand in hand. I love both!

I hope you now love summer just as much as I do! If not, I hope these photos have inspired you to plan a relaxing trip or create your own summer interiors project!! Happy Summer!!

Kitchen Design

Kitchens play such an important part in so many families home across the United States. Every family has a kitchen that fits their specific needs and wants. Some focus on the seating area if they tend to entertain more where others may focus on the type of appliances if they are cooks. Whatever the focus design plays a key role in achieving the clients needs. Here some photos of some unique kitchens:

This kitchen is more of a contemporary kitchen with a sense of warmth. The chocolate tile and horizontal structures along the back wall make for a warm feeling.

This kitchen looks fit for a family. With a large table and island there is plenty of space for family.

This looks like a bachelor's kitchen. Very modern and simple with not a lot of focus on the appliances.

This is also a smaller kitchen with a ton of room for storage. The white walls and wood cabinets make is feel crisp and inviting.

Spring Break in Washington D.C.

This year for spring break I went to visit my sister in Washington D.C. I had never been there and was excited to go and see what it was like. We went to see all the sights, including The White House, Abraham Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetery and the Capital.

Here are some photos:

The above photo is the beautiful scene of Washington D.C. I think D.C. looks so pretty at night with all the lights lit up.

Cherry Blossoms!! The Cherry Blossoms that are around the monuments are so beautiful. When I was there it was the Cherry Blossom festival and everyone came out to see the beautiful trees.

The Capital! The capital was one of my favorite parts and it was beautiful on the inside and out.

The White House

The Metro system in D.C. is one of the cleanest in the United States. As you can see in the above photo the design of the metro is very unique.

I enjoyed D.C. and all of the sightseeing. I hope these photos gave you an idea of what D.C. is like!

BLACK and Kicking!

When you think of the color black what comes to mind? Halloween, Darkness, Horror? Well, think again! Black can play a crucial role in interiors, while creating the ultimate look! Black can be the solution to your concept or it can play as an accent to a space. Here are some wonderful photos of how black creates unique and lovely spaces:

Black in Living Rooms:

The above photo is a modern approach to a living room. The color black is more prominent than the white in this case. The black on the walls, the floors and some on the rug and chairs plays on the contemporary aspect of the space.

This photo has more white than black and it creates more of a warm, country home feel. There is just enough black to create a crisp clean look. Stripes of black and white on the rug and pillows tie the space together.

Intimate Spaces:

As shown in the above photographs, black can also play key roles in intimate spaces. In the first photo the attention is drawn to the walls. The black walls is the first thing that catches your eye. With a lot of white in the space, the black warms the space. Black does not always have to equal cold, a good example of that is the second photo. The space looks very calming and the hint of yellow from the chair creates some form of excitement.

Eating/Meeting Spaces:

This space looks a little colder compared to the other photos shown. The hint of white and yellow help, but I think if there was more variation of color or more of one color the space would look more inviting.

I have to say I absolutely love this outdoor space! I think it embodies just the right amount of black while keeping it fresh and natural. Keeping it bright and colorful with a hint of black is important in an outdoor space. The space needs to be comfortable and inviting, I think this space is a great example of that!

This kitchen has more of a black undertone. It looks a little more grey in the photo, which isn't a bad thing! The black table and dark paint go perfectly with the bright yellow backsplash and chair. The white cabinets and stainless steel hardware create a modern and exciting kitchen. I would LOVE this kitchen in my apartment! Wouldn't you?

So, have I changed you mind on the color black? I think with a few great examples you can see how the color can transform any space into something great and give it new life!  Try using black paint or a black fabric with a pop of color from a rug or a chair in your next project!

Branding Yourself

Marketing yourself is very important in today's world. In my professional practice class on Thursday we had an entire lecture on the topic of marketing yourselves and your businesses. There are many ways to accomplish this. Here are a few ways to get yourself or your business known:
  • Create a logo
  • Create a website
  • Start a blog
  • Create a facebook or Twitter
  • Advertisements
  • Networking
  • Press
Here are some examples of good logos:

The key to creating an efficient logo is to keep it simple. All of the above logos are fairly simple and only include a few colors. There is nothing with a crazy busy background or unnecessary text. I think they are all effective.

Hopefully these ideas will help you create a logo for yourself! Be creative!

Good, Great, G Hotel

The g Hotel is a 5 star hotel located in Galway city centre, at the West of Irelands, along the majestic coastline of Galway Bay. The g Hotel combines modern design and comfort with thoughtful service. The designer of the hotel is Philip Treacy. He created the hotel to be ideal for luxury accommodations, fine dining conferences, celebrations, weddings, and relaxing spa breaks. The hotel is well known to be one of the most modern and sophisticated hotels in Ireland. Here are some photos of the g Hotel and its unique design:

This photo is of the spa area in the hotel. The lighting fixture creates a cool, fresh feeling in the somewhat dark area. The blue and green colored lighting along the wall and around the pool also provide a cool feeling to the space.

The above photo is of the dining area in the G Hotel. It is unique in that the colorful chairs and cove lighting provide a contemporary feeling. Another key factor in the dining area is comfort. The chairs and booths are designed to provide comfort to the customers.

The concierge desk at the front of the hotel is mainly composed of mirrors. This mirrored desk and the mirrors behind the desk are part of the very modern design. The same lighting as used in the dining area also create a contemporary feeling.

This is the photo of common seating area in the hotel. The majority of white in the space creates a modern feel. The white walls and furniture make the area look sophisticated and the silver ball lighting fixture create a sense of fun in the space.

This is the front entry into the hotel. When someone approaches the hotel they automatically know that the hotel's interior is going to be contemporary.

This picture is of one of the guest rooms located in the hotel. The feeling of this room is more about comfort and sophistication creating a cozy environment for the guest.

This photo was in my previous post for valentine's day. I now know the location of the photo and it is the lobby of the G hotel. This space is very modern but also very whimsical. The space grabs your attention and you want to learn more about the hotel.

The G Hotel is one example of the flexibility of interior design. There are many different types of color and design elements throughout the hotel but, they all come together in creating a wonderful enticing place to stay at. Design is more than just creating what is necessary but making it out of the ordinary.
